With House Painting, You Get What You Pay For

When I decided to start working from home, I decided to have one of the spare bedrooms turned into a home office. I wanted to go with an Oriental theme and decided that re-painting the room a nice jade green color would be perfect.

I am not skilled at painting at all, so it was a given that I would have to hire someone to do it for me. I thought that I could save time and keep the hassle to a minimum by hiring some college students to do it for me.

I should have supervised them closer and inspected their work more thoroughly. It took some three weeks for me to notice, but in some places, the painting was uneven, overflowed onto the ceiling and had some bubbles in it. I was so excited to get my new furniture into the office that I didn't notice right away.

The paint job doesn't look terrible, but it doesn't look particularly good either. In the end, I am disappointed and am reminded of my disappointment every morning when I step into my office to get to work. It hangs over me like a black cloud.

If I had it to do all over again, I would have hired a reputable house painter, one with references. It may have cost extra, but the confidence of having hired someone who guarantees his work would probably have been worth it. Once it is all said and done, I guess you can say that you get what you pay for.
