Twisted Rag Faux Paint Finish: Technique Instructions

Twisted paint finish created with a rag

Twisted paint finish created with a rag

This creative rag painting technique results in a stylized floral texture.

Tools and Materials:
Latex paint for the base coat (sating sheen)
1 part paint + 1 part glaze mix
Shallow pan
Clean rags

Instructions:
Once the base coat has been applied and allowed to dry, pour the glaze mix into the shallow pan.

Crumple a clean rag, dip it into the pan, and apply the glaze to the project area with a twisting, repetitive motion.

Don't remove the excess liquid prior to application - the glaze should be sopped liberally onto the surface.

Keep the rag crumpled to create a noticeable texture and pattern.

Since this method is somewhat slow, it may be hard to blend work areas. That is why this finish is recommended for smaller surfaces, such as broken walls or furniture.
