Sloppy Painting Contractor

by Rachael
(Brighton, CO)

I hired a house painting contractor whom I used to work with regularly at an apartment complex where I used to work. Their work wasn't always the greatest, and some of their painters were lazy and sloppy, but they were inexpensive, and mostly reliable. I decided to take a chance with them, and thought if I carefully supervised their work, I would get the results I wanted.

It was a complete and total nightmare. I only wanted my son's upstairs bedroom painted a simple shade of blue, which I purchased myself based on how much paint the contractor told me I would need.

When the painters arrived (extremely late), they were sloppy and rude and inconsiderate. They used a spray gun type rig in order to paint the room as quickly as possible. I had indicated initially I didn't want a spray gun used because it could result in a lot of overspray, but the employees on-site decided that is just what they would do. I had blue overspray on the ceiling, on furniture, and on door-knobs. I was not a happy camper.

Not only that, I am pretty certain they were smoking an illegal substance in the bedroom with the window open. When I asked about it, they assured me it was a type of incense to alleviate the paint smell in the room--I am not a moron! I didn't buy it for a second. I called the contractor to explain what had happened at my house, and he backed his employees 100%.

Next time, I won't hire a contractor whom I know does sloppy work - even supervised they still did a sloppy job. I had to re-paint the room myself, and was out the $250 I paid them to paint the room.

My advice to other homeowners is to find a painting contractor who will give a guarantee on service and labor, and who is highly recommended.
