No Luck With House Painters Here

What happened to me probably happened to a lot of homeowners too. We have not painted the house we own in over 7 years, so we decide to go ahead and hire some house painters to take care of it all.
The first 3 guys (we picked up their flyer in a supermarket, from a bulletin board) we gave them half of the money as they said (for paint and materials) and it was like 1900$ for the 1st half, then when finished the other half of 1900$. But the problem was they never ever showed up anymore and kept the money never to be found, so there we got ripped off.
Then we hired some other painting contractors (found them in a newspaper) and they were so sloppy, very rude and really did not do a good job for the money we paid them. Also there were 2 things we found broken, they messed up the toilet downstairs and there were some things missing.. what a nightmare.
This was like 10 years ago so now that our children are bigger they come every year for a weekend and we paint the house everyone together, no more getting ripped off and no more hassles trying to get our money back or going to court over missing things on the property.
So now all you homeowners know, if your house is not very big or complicated, it is maybe better to get family to pitch in and help instead of losing a lot of money like we did.
