Fast Decisions Lead to Painting Disaster

Last fall, I had my mother in law coming to visit our new home for the first time. I was on a deadline and I had to hurry to get my home ready.

Unfortunately, in a moment of desperation, I called the number on a flyer that had been stuck in my door handle. Their flyer stated in large bold letters that they were a "professional painting service with 10 years of experience in interior and exterior painting".

I knew better than to trust a flyer stuck in the door handle, but I was desperate and didn't want to look very hard. I only had a week left and I wanted a fresh new look in our kitchen, which was a horrible brown color when we moved in. It had to go!

They said they could fit me in by Monday of the following week, just three days before she would be arriving. They told me a "team" will be there at 9am. I agreed and when Monday morning came around, no one came. Finally at 2 in the afternoon, one man showed up with out any ladders or long handled rollers! I had specifically said the ceilings were vaulted. Basically, all the man brought were a few hand rollers and himself.

Needless to say, I thanked the man, called the store and canceled. I told them I would not be needing their services, as they showed up hours late and were unprepared, despite having told them I had large vaulted ceilings.

I then called my husband in tears and he had to take off two days from work to help me paint the kitchen. We only had time for one coat, and his mother, of course, noticed the poor workmanship.

The week after she left, we called around and got recommendations from our friends and neighbors.

Never trust what a company says about itself! Only trust what others say about it!

Every decision I make fast and under pressure turn out to be far from ideal, better to do proper research first especially when money's at stake.
