Don't Waste Your Money With Weekend House Painters

I've had a bad experience with "weekend" house painters.
A few years ago we moved into a new place which was great, except that we didn't like the color. Being a bit strapped for cash, we wanted to look for an alternative to hiring professional painting contractors.
A friend of a friend heard about our situation & offered to do the job himself, provided we provided the paint & a small fee (I forget how much it was now, but it seemed quite reasonable at the time).
We agreed, assuming that house painting was straight-forward enough for the average person to handle. We made the deal, & the next week our friend of a friend came over as we were heading to work, armed with a small assortment of tools. He seemed to know what he was supposed to do, so we left him in charge & headed off to work. Bad idea.
When we came home several hours later, we found that he had done quite a bit of painting. The problem was that it was very poorly done. There were drips all over our cement walkway, the coating was inconsistent, and there were even paint splotches on the windows.
Our painter admitted that it was a bit rough, but promised to fix it as he progressed. However, a few days later it became clear that he didn't know what he was doing & we let him go. So in our attempt to save money, we ended up not only having to hire professional house painters to fix the mess, but also wasting paint with an unprofessional.
I would suggest that anyone thinking of getting a house painted go with someone they know will do a good job. It's not as easy as it looks!
