Always Check the Reputation of Your Contractor

by Kimberly Schmidt
(Des Moines, Iowa, USA )

I learned my lesson the hard way. I hired a contractor to do house painting and repairs for my house. I should have done some research on him to make sure he did a good job. This guy started out okay with his crew, but then it got worse.

First of all, the price went up as the job went on. Second, he just did everything wrong. See, we had to leave for a few days and had our family checking up on the work for us as we were gone.

Meanwhile the contractor took one side of the house out, meaning knocked out the wrong side of the house and a wall. Then they started to paint a room and another in our basement that was not part of what needed to be done.

We came back, found our house in a way that we about cried. The contractor would not give us our money back that we gave him to start and suddenly went out of business. We filed a lawsuit against him.

Well long story short, we got our money back and more against this guy for damages and he lost his license. We found out we were not the first people he had done this to but no one else did anything about it.

Always check who you are hiring and who will be working on your home to fix it and do the things you want done. Make sure they are a respected company and always make sure they are well known for the good work they do.
